New Mass Intention Policy and Procedure
Honoring loved ones at Mass is a sacred tradition and an opportunity for the community to support those who grieve. At times there is an anniversary or birthday or other special date which is shared by two or more families. It is possible for two persons to be named within the Mass. Two families may share the Mass if they agree to do so.
Currently, all Masses are scheduled as available. Most are for the near future, usually within the coming month. The Worship Committee would like all who desire a particular date for remembrance to have an equal opportunity for that special date. A lottery process seems the fairest way to schedule when two or more request a special date.
1. We have established two scheduling dates, one mid-May and the other mid-November. The May date will cover requests for January 1 - June 30, next year. November will cover July 1 - December 31, next year. Any multiple requests for a Mass time will be drawn by lottery.
2. Requests after the May or November scheduling dates will be filled on an as-available basis.
3. The mid-May and mid-November drawing will be done by at least two people chosen by the Worship Committee. For dates requiring drawing by lottery, notifications will be made within two weeks of the lottery date.
For Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and All Souls Day (November 2), we will celebrate one Mass for all of our parishioners, living and deceased (pro populo). The other Masses will be for group intentions. Intentions placed two weeks or more in advance of the Mass will ensure that your loved one’s name will be listed in the bulletin.
Please note: Those requesting Mass intentions for January 1, 2016 - June 30. 2016, will need to make their request by May 15, 2015, in order to be eligible for the lottery drawing, should that be necessary. Those requesting Mass intentions for July 1, 2016 - December 31, 2016, will need to make their request by November 15, 2015, for the same. Please see a parish staff member to help you schedule Mass intentions.
