Parish Mission Statement
We, the Catholic Community of Saint Bernadette, seek to strengthen our relationship with God and all people through acts of charity, justice, and love, proclaiming the Gospel, sharing the Eucharist and developing our ministries.
Brian Schweinhart, a scout in Troop 308, is currently working on his Eagle Scout project. He is holding a denim drive where he will be collecting any jeans or other denim products to be sent to a company that turns it into insulation, later sent out to Habitat for Humanity homes. Denim in any condition or color is accepted. There will be collections in the narthex on September 20th and 21st, after all Masses.
A Day Away For Men Of St. Bernadette
There will be a retreat for all the men of the parish on Saturday, September 27 from 9a to 5p and will take place at St. Aloysius in Pee Wee Valley. The day will be filled with a variety of activities such as: socializing with fellow men from St. Bernadette, spiritual storytelling, reconciliation and a closing liturgy. All the activities of the day will enhance the spirit of the men who attend so they can experience how God is always working within their lives, even if it is in a “mysterious” way.
The theme of this retreat is “The Mysterious Ways of God,” and will be conducted by Fr. Bernie Weber, CP. Father will unravel this theme using examples of the many experiences of his own life in which he saw God’s presence in a unique and hidden way revealed to him. Through the medium of story he will show how God reveals Himself to us in the stories that make up the composite of our lives.
Fr. Bernie is a member of the Passionist Community of priests and brothers and has lived in Louisville at the Passionist Monastery on Newberg Road since 2000. He was born in Chicago in the early 1940s. When he was about 4 years old his family moved to California where he grew up and went to school. He received both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics in the mid 1960’s. Father Bernie taught high school math in California and Hawaii. While in Hawaii Father’s vocation to the priesthood grew and after contact with the Passionist Fathers he decided to join that religious community and was ordained a priest in 1981. Father Bernie has served in parishes in Chicago, Detroit, Houston, and Birmingham. He has done much work in the area of retreats and missions for many years. He is a very spirit-filled priest who has a great love of God, Mary, and the Church.
Sign-ups for this retreat will take place the weekends of September 14 and 21 after all mass times. For more information on this retreat please contact Bob Sugrue at 815-3105, or at email@example.com.
